North Carolina Attorney General Issues Warnings About Debt Collection Calls

North Carolina Attorney General Issues Warnings About Debt Collection CallsNorth Carolina Roy Cooper has issued warnings about an increase in call scams.

There have been many people who asked the attention of Cooper’s Consumer Protection Division by reporting and documenting the calls from scammers who pose as who aim to harass and intimidate them at any point during the day.

According to Cooper, “Do not fall for these calls from crooks demanding that you pay phony debts. Never agree to share your personal information with someone you do not know who calls you, no matter how convincing they sound.”

The scammers sometimes use fake names that will sound like real government agencies or debt collection agencies.

A few weeks ago, Cooper has issued warnings about similar calls, this time from scammers who pretend to be from the law enforcement body. They give threats to those who do not agree to pay an amount.

The authorities are trying to pinpoint the mechanism that the scammers are using such that they have personal information such as phone numbers and even credit history. Most of the consumers who have experienced harassing calls from the scammers have pointed out that they started receiving the phony calls when they signed up for loans or credit cards through the internet. There are those who get phone calls about internet payday loans when they have not even applied for one yet.

Authorities advise people to check their own records first before making transactions with anyone who calls them through their phone regarding their debts.
